Why do you have to stay in Lithuania for 5 days after surgery?
One of the questions we are asked most often at Luxuskirurgi is why patients must stay in Lithuania for at least 5 days after surgery.
To many people, that sounds like a long time at first. Especially when you miss your children, your daily routine, or just want to go home as soon as possible. But there are actually some very important reasons why the clinic recommends—and in many cases requires—that patients stay for a few days after surgery.
After all, surgery doesn’t end when you leave the operating room. On the contrary, a very important part of the process only begins there.

The first few days are an important part of the treatment
When you undergo major cosmetic surgery —such as a mommy makeover, tummy tuck, breast surgery, or liposuction—your body needs rest, monitoring, and recovery.
In the days following surgery, patients are continuously monitored by us and the clinic in Kaunas or Vilnius. They come in for follow-up visits, are evaluated by the staff, and receive the care their bodies need during the healing process.
Some patients are discharged with drains that must be monitored and later removed properly. Others require massage or additional follow-up regarding swelling, fluid buildup, or wound healing. It is therefore important that the clinic continues to be able to monitor patients during the first few days after surgery.
In fact, many people are surprised by just how much follow-up is included in the stay.
Complications often do not appear immediately
One of the most important things to understand is that complications following surgery rarely occur immediately.
